Franz SchubertFranz Schubert, Austria (1797-1828) After his schooling at the father, who also taught him the violin while his brother Ignaz taught him the piano, Franz got his education at the song-school at the Courtly Chapel in Vienna. Thereafter he became a student at Ruzikas and Salieri before he tried to make a living as a composer. The large circle of friends among musicians and poets, who met regularly under the name Schubertiaden, inspired each other reciprocally and many of the works of Schubert was presented at these meetings. It is difficult to overestimate the influence of his songs to the German Lied, because Schubert gave the genre a quite new form and position in the music of composition. |
